Thanks for taking the time to write this. I always enjoy reading critiques of our society and its structures. If I understand correctly in order for a hierarchy to no be coercive, it needs to be consented upon by all parties involved. If that is not the case sucha a hierarchy is not useful and we should see (in the long term) to remove it so we can move to a future where hierarchies are absent. However, I do not fully agree with this. Let’s take an easy example, one that concerns all of us — doctors. Let’s say you have a number of surgeons in your country and there is a hierarchy of sorts — some of them are revered as geniuses in their field, while others are not, the ones on top getting more social credit and more money. It is not too far fetched to assume that some of the people at the bottom of this hierarchy will not agree with it, claiming that they are actually better than what they are given credit for. Which one would you choose if you had to make a choice? Would you dismiss the whole hierarchy because it is “coercive”?
