Healthcare — the good and the bad
Healthcare is one of those subjects that look simple on the surface (just give decent healthcare to everyone, right?) but can be surprisingly easy to mess up if you are a government trying to implement an actual plan. In this article, which is half-article, half book review you get an interesting comparison of what seem to be the top 10 countries in the field. To be honest, it is just a starting point and way more reading is required to get a grasp of the field, but I feel it’s a good starting point.
Portugal and drug regulations
Ever since Portugal changed its drug laws in 2001 it has been the go-to example when arguing why legalization of drugs is a good idea. However, it turns out that the country’s success with drugs wasn’t just due to possession being legalized. There was a massive push to move from punishment for drug users to actual programmes that help people get off the drugs. Since the biggest problem in Portugal is heroin, this might have some pointers to the solution of the opioid crisis plaguing the USA.
